Dean Quinlan
As the old saying goes, ‘you are what you eat’. It’s
a statement that Dean Quinlan keeps coming back to even though he admits
he was once skeptical about the health effects of Omega 3 fatty acids.
“DHA is only found in the heart, the eye and the brain while EPA
maintains the structure of the body – the skin, the bones, the
tissue,” he says.
Every year, scientists, he says, are coming out with more and more benefits
of the Omega 3 fatty acids for those suffering from arthritis, heart
disease, auto-immune diseases like multiple sclerosis, asthma, and attention
deficit disorders. He’s also watching how the industry develops,
creating products with higher levels of DHA to address cognitive issues
for children and products with higher levels of EPA to reduce inflammation
of skin, bones, and connective tissues.
Quinlan has been around fish and the fishing industry all of his life. His
family was in the salt fish business and he has owned and managed fish
plants for three decades. But, when his father Leroy began experimentation
with developing Omega 3 fatty acid products, he was originally skeptical.
“I didn’t think they would be much help,” he admits. “So
I tried them for six months or so and then stopped for three or four. I
noticed a real difference and went back on them and I feel pretty good.”
As he’s developed the Omega Gold products, he’s researched
how Omega 3 acids have played strong roles in the lives of northern peoples
- the Inuit, the people of Newfoundland, and the Japanese.
“Eighty per cent of the Japanese diet is from the ocean,” he
says. “Here in North America, we eat more meat and chicken and
you see more health problems. That’s why I have such a strong
belief in the Omegas – there’s a big future because people
need the supplements.”
He’s also looked at how Omega 3 products can help young people
who are struggling with conditions like ADD or ADHD.
“Omega 3 oils help them get the balance in their brain back. If
the brain doesn’t have enough DHA, it’s almost like a boat
out in the ocean and there’s not enough water for the boat to float
on so it hits the rocks. But, when there’s more water available
for the boat, those problems are avoided. It’s the same
with people and the amount of DHA in their brain. When they get
those levels up, then they’re on the road to recovery.”
Both from a personal perspective, as one who has taken Omega Gold for
several years and from a professional perspective, Dean Quinlan says
the key to his product’s success is that “it’s good
for your health”.
